VALE Vi Hawkins

4-Jun-2017

Vale -
Vi Hawkins (age 98 years)

Vi and husband Percy became active members of the RCC in 1968. She was a founding member and Treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary.  Over the next 20 years she worked tirelessly all year raising money by catering for functions. During the cricket season the first eleven afternoon tea was known as the best in district cricket. During the football season the after game snacks and toasted sandwiches were famous. Vi and the Ladies Auxiliary made the RCC the place to be, whatever the season.
Vi always said that her times at the RCC were some of the happiest and best times of her life. She made many life long friends while at the Club.
She was thrilled to become a Life Member of the Club, honouring her contribution over such a long period.
Vi passed away on 31st May.  An amazing long and happy life.  R.I.P.

The Hawkins family over many years made a substantial contribution to the well being of the Richmond Cricket Club. The late Percy Hawkins, Vice President and Life Member was an institution around Punt Road and always ready to assist with anything. Daughter Faye, Life Member, worked with Vi for many years in various roles, and Fayes husband Ian McAuliffe, Life Member, was also on the committee and our treasurer for many years. The Richmond Cricket Club passes on our condolences to one of our most treasured families.
